Major Robert Waterman Hunter

Robert Waterman Hunter was born July 12 1837 at Martinsburg Va. Attended the University of Va. and became a teacher for Martinsburg and Prince George County. Enlisted in the Confederate Army April 18 1861.Comissioned a Lieutenant with Company D 2nd Va, and was appointed adjutant for the company. Then served as an adjutant under General J.A.

Walker and General Ed Johson. Was promoted to Major under Gen. Johson.

In May 1864, joined the staff of General John B. Gordon and was appointed Chief of Staff. Served under Gen. Gordon until the surrender at Appomattox.

After the war was appointed Secretary of Va. Military Records. Was also a lawyer,a legislator and newspaper editor. Died in Washington DC April 4 1916. Is buried at Mt. Hebron Cemetary Winchester Va.

Maj. Hunter is portrayed by Jimmy Boykin from Rocky Mount N.C. I am a construction superintendent. I have been doing living history for about 8 years. I enjoy meeting people and teaching what duties and responsiblites others had in the war.
